Take a dive deep into the ocean and become one of the great sea kings battling in search of new resources to bring glory to their underwater kingdoms.
Aquatica is an engine building game that requires you to recruit characters, acquire locations and take special actions in order to gain the most prosperity points to win the game.
Each player starts with a deck of character cards, matching their chosen player colour and icon, along with 4 attractive ‘Manta’ tokens. One character card must be played each turn, as a main action, which will enable you to recruit more sea creatures, buy and conquer locations for your player board and take other actions as you progress through the game.
Alongside your main action you may play additional actions such as flipping Mantas or exploiting the depths of your location cards to use extra resources (coins or power) to gain more prosperous locations and sea creatures. In addition to your main action you can use the depths of your location cards and Mantas for effects to gain extra benefits such as raising locations, ‘scoring’ your successful acquisitions, gaining additional characters and wild Mantas.
There is no limit to the amount of additional actions you can take on your turn; with careful thought and strategy you could undertake some excellent combos that have up to ten actions and effects that will help you on your way to banking those prosperity points and accomplishing the 4 game goals at the ocean surface.
The end game is triggered when either the character or location card decks are empty or when a player has completed all four goals. To do this a Manta is placed in one of the spaces by the goal and specific points are awarded in order of who gets there first. There is even some strategy to the end game as a player can choose when to place their Mantas in the goal spaces, rather than having to do it as soon as the goal is accomplished.
With different game goals, the unique ‘card rising’ method, aesthetically pleasing Mantas, player boards and location cards, you will want to get submerged in this game with the Merpeople and ‘Diplomatic Crabs', again and again.
You can even take on the challenge of the Ocean Council with the Solo game and either sink to to the bottom of Davy Jone’s Locker as a Blobfish or rule the underworld and be awarded the ultimate prize of the Kraken!
