Whistle Mountain

Bezier Games Board Game

Deep in the Rocky Mountains, there is a gem of a board game waiting to be discovered.

Time to board your airships…the next stop is Whistle Mountain!

Whistle Mountain, published by Bezier Games, is a 2-4 player unique tile laying, worker placement & resource management game. Using your hot air balloon, blimp and dreadnought, you will gather resources to buy scaffolding, machines and acquire special upgrades and abilities  to help work your way up the mountainside to victory.

Beware though as the snow caps are melting and the rising water will add to the challenge of your success.  Manage your crew of workers effectively so they can rise with you and your profits or they might just get swept away in the floods!

There is a lot to the set-up but this is expertly explained in the rule book and the game-play is totally worth the wait! Once the main board and its components are in place, each player chooses a colour and gets their own game board, starting resources of Water, Iron, Gold and Coal, three awesome chunky airships and a crew of 9 workers, which 7 of them are placed on the Barracks at the side of the mountain and 2 of them start in the whirlpool at the bottom of the mountain. Each player also starts with 2 pieces of scaffolding (one of which is placed on the board) and a starting ability token attached to the side of the Player Board. Depending on player count, aside from the starting player, each player gains additional resources (including the wild resource of a Whistle.)

Game-play is straightforward; there are 2 main actions: COLLECT or FORGE (of which you must choose one of them) and two bonus actions: PLAY A CARD and/or GAIN REWARD (of which you may play one of each at any point of your turn.)

To COLLECT, you choose one of your airships and either place it on the mountain in a permitted space to gather resources from scaffolding and machines, or choose one of the docking spaces around the edge of the game board to select its action (Choose from buying machines, acquiring cards, upgrades and scaffolding, or rescuing a worker from the whirlpool.)

To FORGE, you bring your airships back to your game board and can spend resources to build scaffolding and machines to earn you victory points and move workers from the barracks to the scaffolding, in the hope of eventually getting them promoted to the other side of the mountain where you can gain rewards and further victory points at the end of the game.

Once a machine is built above the line of the bridge on the game board, the waters start to rise and flood the mountain each time sweeping machines & workers away with it.

The end-game is triggered when all the workers have moved out of the barracks, either onto the scaffolding or by being swept away by the last flood water bar. Players then get one more turn and the victory point tokens are added up. There are several ways to score points but don’t worry about remembering as you can just flip your player board over for a scoring guide on the back.

If a game could blow it’s own trumpet (or whistle) - this is it! It has everything - colour, strategy,  quality components, unique mechanics, re-playability and much much more to make it really stand out on your board game shelf!
